The following quick tips will help you achieve longer, thicker, healthier Rapunzel-like relaxed or texlaxed hair.
1. Stretch your Relaxers
Less is best. Fewer relaxer or texlaxer applications within a year will help prevent your hair from being over-processed. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of managing two textures, start small by stretching for a couple weeks more than normal and then gradually increase the duration of your stretch as you become comfortable managing your hair.
2. Use a Protein Treatment After Relaxing or Texlaxing Your Hair
Protein treatments fill the bonds that have been broken down by chemical processes. Protein treatments help strengthen your hair strands and improve elasticity when used properly.
3. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
This self-explanatory… the key to healthy hair and supreme length retention is moisture. Failing to maintain the proper moisture levels makes your hair more prone to breakage and damage from heat and/or styling processes. So deep condition weekly (or as often as possible), moisturize and seal, co-wash, and water wash to maintain your moisture levels.
4. Limit Your Use of Heat
Heat is another bond alternating element. Reducing heat will minimize breakage, prevent your hair from being burned off, and help preserve moisture levels within your hair strands.
5. Low Manipulation Styling is Key
Keep your fingers out of your hair and hidden from the elements. You’ll thank me later!
6. Scalp Massages
Scalp massages with Pure Castor Oil or Jamaican Black Castor Oil infused with a few drops of peppermint and rosemary essential oils (at the very least) are heaven sent! Scalp massages stimulate your hair follicles and increase blood circulation to the scalp - promoting hair growth and stronger follicles.
