Split Ends

With all these products on the market claiming to repair split ends, we (the consumers) are tricked into believing that there is actually a way to save damaged ends without having to cut any hair off. We shell out a couple dollars here, a few bucks there, and go from store to store to find a product that will “repair” split ends. Meanwhile, these beauty brands continue to collect our coins and laugh to the bank… Why are they laughing to the bank? It’s simple. They are laughing because they know the only products that can repair split ends are scissors. They are laughing because they know we (or someone) will continue to fall for their split end remedy trick every single time and shell out wads of cash just to avoid a cut or trim. The truth is most products marketed to “repair split ends” temporarily bond split strands or reduce the chance of split ends developing by coating and/or strengthen the hair strand. This post provides 3 easy steps to keep split ends away!

STEP ONE: IDENTIFY SPLIT ENDS AND SAY BYE-BYE (i.e. CUT THEM AWAY)

STEP TWO: PROTECTION

In order to protect your hair from developing new split ends, you need to understand what causes split ends. Commons causes include, but are not limited to: 1) lack of moisture; 2) friction from rubbing against your clothes or cotton, combing your hair, and brushing your hair; 3) exposure to the elements (i.e. dry weather or harsh winds); and 4) using particular pins, ponytail holders, barrettes, and clips.

Here are some suggestions to combat these factors and protect your hair from developing split ends.

  1. Keep your hair moisturized
  2. Use a moisturizing deep conditioner regularly
  3. Use a light or heavy protein treatment when you feel your hair is too weak or too flexible. Aubrey Organics GPB ConditionerJoico K-Pak Reconstructor,ApHogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor, and ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Packare a few good ones to use.
  4. Use gentle cleansers

STEP THREE: SEARCH AND DESTROY ON SIGHT (I.E. DUST)

Examine your ends regularly. When you see a split end begin to form, cut it out immediately. This will keep the split from rising up the shaft. That way you can avoid serious trims or haircuts and save your money rather than wasting it on products that don’t work.
